For Those Facing Housing Injustice & Those Without Legal Recourse
Intercessor:
Our Loving Father, Your word says, “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.” Trusting in the mercy and justice of God, let us pray for the Church and for the world.
God of justice and shelter, You know what it is to have no place to lay Your head. We pray for all who live in unsafe housing, with mold, leaks, overcrowding, predatory landlords, perilous streets, and polluted air—especially children, the elderly, and those with few choices.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Remember, Lord, those facing wrongful evictions, withheld deposits, dangerous conditions, wage theft, family-law injustice, denied benefits, and immigration powerlessness; those who cannot afford costly legal help or who are overwhelmed by complex systems.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Have mercy upon tenants, workers, refugees, immigrants, and the poor who know they have been wronged but lack the money, time, or strength to seek justice and fair redress.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Strengthen tenants’ advocates, labor and migrant justice lawyers, family and disability legal-aid clinics, community organizers, and all who labor faithfully on behalf of those with little voice. Move Your Church to see law and land as trusts under Your gracious care, requiring proactive stewardship, and awaken us to become a faithful witness for the flourishing of all, especially those who are powerless.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
Give wisdom to planners, legislators, judges, and public officials, that our cities and towns may reflect Your vision of justice, care well for Your creation, and honor the poor and those who have lost hope.
People:
Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer.
Intercessor:
May every dwelling and every courtroom bear witness to Your loving, righteous, just, and merciful kingdom; through Jesus Christ, our refuge and our stronghold, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
People:
Amen.
